Mother’s Day Traditions
Mother’s Day each year reminds me of my childhood in Germany. Everybody in the family was involved to prepare the celebration of this special day for Mutter. It started out with decorations of flowers picked in the meadows or garden. The traditional strawberry cake and a vanilla cheese cream pudding were served as dessert after the traditional meal that consisted of white asparagus, potatoes and ham. When I grew older I was even able to manage to make a Linzer Cake and a Strawberry Shortcake just for my mother. She of course would share with everyone. I continued with these Mother’s Day traditions when I had my own family.
