German Meat Patties — Frikadellen
German Meat Patties – Frikadellen
German Meat Patties are called Frikadellen in Germany.
Ingredients for German Meat Patties:
- 680 g (1.5 lb.) of ground beef (I used 15% fat)
- 2 eggs, XL
- 2 slices of toast OR 1 hard french roll (one day old) OR 2-3 tablespoons of breadcrumbs
- 3 tablespoons of flour
- 1 medium-sized onion
- 1 tablespoon of mustard
- salt
- pepper
- paprika (mild)
Preparation:
Dice the onion. Soak the toast or roll in lukewarm water for about 5 minutes and than wring the water out. Mix the ground beef with the toast or roll or breadcrumbs, add flour, egg, onion, mustard, and spices. Form a patty using 1 ½ tablespoons of the mixture.
Two cooking options.
Option 1:
Fry the patties in a skillet with 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening (or oil) for about 12 minutes, 6 minutes on each side.
Option 2:
Grill the patties on a barbecue.
Either way, keep an eye on your Meat Patties – Frikadellen, turning them regularly to keep them from burning.
