Homemade Baguette Recipe
This is a homemade Baguette recipe for a French bread. A Baguette is called Französisches Weiβbrot or Baguette in Germany.
Ingredients for homemade Baguette recipe:
- 500 g (17.6 oz) of flour, all-purpose
- 1 ½ packages of active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 eggs, XL
- 1 egg yolk
- 100 ml (3.4 oz) of milk, lukewarm
- 150 g (5.3 oz) of crème fraîche
Preparation of homemade Baguette:
Sift the flour into a big bowl. Add sugar, salt, and yeast to it. Mix ingredients with a tablespoon. Place the eggs and egg yolk on top of the flour mix and cover the eggs with the flour on all sides. Pour the lukewarm milk evenly over the mix and spread the crème fraîche over it. Mix with a handheld mixer using the kneading hooks until the dough is soft and loosens from the sides of the bowl. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise for about 2 hours or until it has doubled in size. (This will depend on what kind of yeast your are using).
Divide the dough into two equal parts about 450 g (15.8 oz). Form two rolls about 30 centimeters (12 inches) long and place them on a sheet covered with baking paper (parchment paper). With a knife, mark diagonal lines on the surface of the dough and then brush the dough with water.
Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and bake the bread on the middle rack for about 30–35 minutes (depending on how dark you would like it). Take the bread out of the oven and let it cool on a cooling rack. Serve the homemade Baguette with Oma’s homemade herb butter or with some cheese. Or just have the homemade bread accompany the main course.
