- 1 kg (2.2 lb.) of potatoes
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- nutmeg (optional)
- 50-75 g (1 ½ tablespoon) of butter
- ⅛ liter (½ cup) of milk
The amount of milk and the color of the mashed potatoes are depending on the kind of potatoes used. You can control the texture of your Mashed Potatoes as it depends on the amount of liquids.
Preparation of Mashed Potatoes:
Peel the potatoes, wash, and cut them into small pieces. (Cut a big potato in about 6 pieces of equal size.) Add one teaspoon of salt to a large pot of water. Once the water boils, add the cut potatoes and boil for about 20 minutes. Strain the potatoes and place them back in the pot. Add the butter. Now mix and mash the potatoes using a potato masher. Heat the milk and add it to the mashed potatoes. Beat the mashed potatoes until the consistency is completely smooth and a little fluffy. Feel free to add more salt but bear in mind that the potatoes were already cooked in saltwater. Add a sprinkle of nutmeg, if you like. Served with Pork Roast, Cabbage Rolls, Goulash or Stuffed Bell Peppers.
