Top 10 classic children’s books—as told by a German grandmother.
Children’s Classic Story Books
Children’s Classic Story Books are called klassische Maerchenbuecher in Germany.
From the mysterious and enchanting to the downright adorable; children’s books have a unique way of capturing the imagination—and nothing does that quite like the children’s classic story books. Think about it, the stories that were read to you as a child can still come alive in your mind as if it were yesterday. You might remember the way those drawings would just dance off the page, or how your parents or grandparents would hold you close and mimic the voices of each character in their own special way. Those moments should never be shelved. Instead, shared.
Children’s classic story books are timeless. Unfortunately, they too often get lost in a world of mass-produced TV shows and mind-numbing video games. The real beauty of these illustrated keepsakes is that they appeal to every culture, translate in any language, and entertain all ages. Why? Because it’s all about the story.
Below are some of my favorite books—available in both English and in German. They’ve been passed down from generation to generation and are still as captivating as they were years ago. Enjoy!
Yours, Oma
