Ham Noodle Casserole
Ham Noodle Casserole – Schinkennudeln
The Ham Noodle Casserole is prepared with pasta, ham, and an egg sour cream mixture. Topped with shredded cheese.
Ingredients for Ham Noodle Casserole:
- 454 g (1 lb) of cut ziti
- 2 ½ liter of water
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 454 g (1 lb) of sliced cooked ham
- 3 eggs XL
- 1 cup of sour cream
- ½ cup of milk
- 226 g (8 oz) of shredded mozzarella
Preparation of Casserole:
Bring the water with the salt to a boil and cook the cut ziti for about 10 minutes. Strain the noodles and pour some cold water over them, so that they do not stick together.
In the meantime, cut the ham first in strips about ½ inch and then in squares. Beat the eggs, add the sour cream, milk, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth.
Butter a casserole dish. Place half of the noodles in your dish, then add one layer of ham. Cover with the other half of the noodles. Pour your sour cream mix over the noodles. Spread the mozzarella evenly on top. Cut the butter in small pieces and place them on top of the cheese.
Preheat the oven to 180°C-190°C — 360°F-375°F. Place your Ham Noodle Casserole on the middle rack in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or till the cheese is crusty and the sour cream egg mixture is curdled. Serve the Casserole with Oma’s Chinese Cabbage Salad. This recipe serves about 6-8 people.
